These opera pumps are manufactured using the direct welt construction method.

Opera pumps are said to have originated in the 1800s as formal footwear (worn, for example, when attending the opera). They are typically made from patent leather to maintain their shine and feature a ribbon decoration. While opera pumps are the antithesis of everyday shoes, we have used casual leather and omitted all decorations to make them suitable for daily wear. They can be polished for social occasions or worn casually, offering a versatile range of looks.

The upper is made from Horween's Dressner leather from the US. It is thick and, while not as oily as Chromexcel, it is highly flexible. Despite its elegant appearance, it develops wild wrinkles, making it an excellent match for denim and other casual wear.

To maximize the advantages of the direct welt construction method, we use oil-tanned bends for the sole. It is very soft and, despite being leather, it has excellent grip even when slightly worn, making it relatively slip-resistant.

For sizing, we recommend the same size as the WHEELROBE #1228 Last or a half size up.

・About Direct Welt Construction
In Goodyear welt construction, a rib tape is attached to the insole, and the welt is sewn to the rib. In direct welt construction, no rib is attached; instead, the insole is raised, and the upper and welt are sewn into the groove created. Since there is no rib tape, the shoe is very flexible and comfortable to walk in right from the start.
