These opera pumps are made with a direct welt construction.
Opera pumps are said to have originated in the 1800s as formal footwear (worn when attending operas, etc.).
They typically use patent leather to maintain their shine and feature a ribbon embellishment.
While opera pumps are traditionally the antithesis of everyday shoes, we have made ours suitable for daily wear by using casual leather and omitting any embellishments.
They can be polished and worn to formal events, or casually worn as-is, offering a variety of looks.
For the upper, we used Horween Dressner leather from the USA.
It is thick and not as oily as Chromexcel, but it is exceptionally flexible.
Despite its elegant appearance, it develops wild wrinkles, making it an excellent match for denim and other casual wear.
To maximize the benefits of the direct welt construction, we used oil bends for the sole.
It is very soft and, despite being leather, offers good grip as the sole wears down slightly, making it relatively slip-resistant.
For sizing, we recommend the same size as the WHEELROBE #1228 Last, or a half size up.
・About Direct Welt Construction
In Goodyear welt construction, a rib tape is attached to the insole, and the welt is sewn to the rib.
In direct welt construction, no rib tape is attached; instead, the insole is raised, and the upper and welt are sewn into the groove created.
Without the rib tape, the shoe is very flexible and easy to walk in right from the first wear.
